This is from India Today’s latest series “The next big things”.
In the Jetsons, an American animated sci-fi sitcom that aired in the early 1960s, the families travelled in flying cars. Now 50 years later, that futuristic utopia may be becoming a reality. A Slovakian company, AeroMobil, has announced that it will in early 2017 launch a personal air vehicle that doubles up as a car when it touches down and can navigate city traffic. The first flying roadster has foldable wings, and has a top speed of 120 kmph on the road. In flight, it can attain 200 kmph, and can fly upto 600 km. The manufacturers say the price of the hybrid would be a little less than that of a small aircraft. Meanwhile, three other companies-including one owned by the French government-have speeded up efforts to develop similar flying cars. At this rate, by 2020, there may have to be greater synergy between air traffic controllers and traffic policemen on the ground.
